As part of the Cypress Village Tunnel Art WalkVCR and WOAH teamed up with Antigua Coffee House to present TUNNEL VISION, a one-night audiovisual event set within and inspired by the underground. Set-up along the overground periphery and below within a former pedestrian passageway in Cypress Park, TUNNEL VISION aimed to be a temporary portal inducing expanded states of perception. Pooling tastes for audiovisual elements typically limited to LA’s ‘undergrounds,’ TUNNEL VISION united hyphenated-genre-eluding music, interactive light optics, and the in-between, to deliver a hypnotic experience of sight and sound, space and perception.

vision | NU SPEED

As part of Double Vision, WOAH presents NU SPEED.

Forevermin // NU SPEED

Forevermin // NU SPEED

Delving into various media, Nu Speed‘s projects conjure transcendent sonic spaces and dark reveries.  With an interest in anagrams, puns, fractals, and nominative determinism, Nu Speed employs literary devices and a taste for the uncanny to expose hidden synchronicities in supernatural patterns and wearable novelties.  The delicate, obsessive contours of her prints and videos render a fractured atlas where the alien, natural, and phenomenal collide into one infinite plane.

69 Pins // NU SPEED

’69’ Pins from NU SPEED for sale at SPACE Mall.

While Nu Speed‘s digital studies reveal the holograms of lenticular photographs––leaving traces of transdimensional ghosts in their path––the ingenuity of her handcrafted ’69’ baby pins lies in their perfect artistry of absurdity.  The eerie drone of her soundtracks evoke hypnotic chase scenes, while her literary pieces under Vitus Hearn offer readers clever sexual advisement, lending word-foreplay so well-played puns morph into rhythmic haiku.

A conundrum of creativity and talent extremity, Nu Speed continues to search for the perfect synthesis to unite her extrasolar media projects.  Pick-up Nu Speed‘s nu-est novel items alongside Rossana Diaz at the SPACE Mall booth in the daylight, and keep watch as her latest video manifestations light up the dark this Saturday 7/27 1PM-12AM at Double Vision.

Double Vision FlyerDouble Vision is a sensory experience co-created through the collaboration of three unique concept-oriented brands,  VCR (Vintage Contemporary Reconstructed), Futra, and WOAH designed to showcase emerging talent in fashion, art and music. The event will be held from 1PM – 12AM on Saturday, July 27th at Angel City Brewery in the heart of downtown LA’s arts district. Double Vision Flyer - Featuring

Art in a brewery

Currently underway is a collaboration with two LA-based, multimedia brands: the floating retail pop-up and vending platform VCR (Vintage Contemporary Resconstructed), and FUTRA, the collective multimedia brand and music label bridging genres of art and design through experiential events.

On Saturday July 27 from 1PM-12AM, we unite at Angel City Brewery to co-create and curate a total sensory experience in which art, fashion, music, and performance synthesize to provide a day-to-night occasion of enhanced sonic cohesion.  This event will be twofold with an indoor marketplace of vendors setting-up shop within the behemoth of Angel City‘s ground floor during the day, and come dusk, transforming into an atmospheric scene and dance-destination with a sophisticated line-up of dj’s, performances, installations, and immersive environments.

To realize this event to its absolute capacity, we call upon artists, creatives, devotees, dancers, followers, groupies, and lovers to join us.  With an OPEN CALL for artist submissions thru Monday July 15, we seek performance, installation, video, and multimedia works to feature and market as part of this event.  Additionally, one-of-a-kind vendors and artisans and creative agencies are invited to inquire about vending space.

It’s been one year since WOAH hosted award-winning performance troupe Suchu Dance at our mobile art space’s first mall location in Houston, Texas. Last June, Suchu Dance inaugurated the opening of West Oaks Art House at West Oaks Mall (WOAH at WOM) with the site-specific performance ‘Afternono.’ Activating the entire lower tier of former JC Penney walls at West Oaks Mall, ‘Afternono’ was performed over a period of three weeks to coincide with Houston’s 10th Big Range Dance Festival.  Suchu Artistic Director and Founder, Jennifer Wood, choreographed the performance which spanned all 50,000 square ft. of the former department store.

Invited to roam and travel through the space as the graceful action of the 16 dancers progressed, audience members were invited to have an experiential and intimate encounter with the piece. Exploring the use of vast space as a vessel, and intentionally laying bare typical theatrical elements such as sophisticated lighting or sound, the immersive nature of ‘Afternono’ challenged conventional theatre relationships. Creating a spatial synthesis between viewer and performer, the audience was as integral to ‘Afternono’ as the free-flowing synchronicities of the dancer’s themselves.

In addition to marking one-year since WOAH welcomed Suchu (…and thus beginning our friendship and fan-hood), we encourage local Houstonians to check out their latest piece “BOSK” opening in Houston tomorrow evening, Fri. 6/7. “BOSK” will sadly be the last time Suchu performs at their long-standing downtown home, Barnevelder Theater–the arts complex they conceived, built, and have performed within since 2003. Don’t miss your chance to see this unparalleled team of artists at their homebase!

Suchu Dance premieres ‘BOSK’  this Fri 6/7 at 8PM | Performances Thurs-Sat thru 6/22.
